Police Blotter

Aggravated Assault, Marijuana Offense, May 18, 7:30 a.m., Clement Street and Second Avenue
A SF Department of Parking and Traffic parking control officer (PCO) called police after being assaulted.

The incident started when the parking officer parked her car on Clement Street, remaining inside. After 10 minutes, she heard a loud bang - the suspect was hitting her car with his fist. The suspect then pulled out an unknown metal object from his right pocket and went over to the vehicle in an attempt to hit it.

The officer started the car and began backing up to get away from the suspect. Fearing for her life, she called police.

Police found the suspect walking a few block from where the incident took place. He was detained after the PCO identified him. After conducting a pat search of the suspect, a police officer found a metal bolt on the suspect, which the parking officer identified as the object used to threaten her.

The suspect was taken into police custody. At the booking counter, while conducting a search of the suspect's backpack, a large plastic bag containing more than an ounce of suspected marijuana was discovered.

Cocaine Possession for Sale, Obstructing Peace Officer Duties, Probation Violation, May 1, 4:28 p.m., Western End of Post Street
Two plainclothes police officers in an unmarked vehicle observed a woman as she handed over an unidentified amount of money to another woman, who, in return for the money, handed over a small object that was cupped in her left hand. The officers concluded that that was a narcotics transaction, at which point they pulled over and exited their vehicle.

The officers identified themselves by their SFPD stars hanging from a chain around their necks. One suspect looked at the officers and began to walk away, holding the suspected narcotics in her left hand and dollar bills in her right. She tried to throw a tin can under a parked vehicle, but the can bounced off the bumper and landed on the sidewalk, scattering around numerous off-white-colored rocks. The officer suspected the substance was crack cocaine.

The officer told the suspect to place her hand behind her back because she was under arrest. As she began to walk away, the officer grabbed her left arm and placed it behind her back because she was resisting arrest. The suspect tried to kick the tin can under the car and managed to stomp on some of the suspected crack rocks in an attempt to destroy evidence. The money from her hand and the white rocks were seized as evidence.

The other suspect was detained without resisting arrest. Both suspects were taken to the Richmond District Station.

Battery, May 15, 2:47 p.m., 2800 Block of California Street
A chef at a Chinese restaurant was talking to his fellow employee, when another employee punched him in the face. The victim then left the restaurant to go to a police station.

The victim told the officers his story, but when paramedics arrived, he refused treatment. When the officers arrived at the restaurant, they located the man with whom the victim was talking to prior to the attack. The witness did not speak English.

After finding an employee who spoke both English and Chinese, the officers got the story: The suspect who punched the victim thought he was talking about him (the suspect), which was not true, according to the witness. The suspect received a citation.

Loaded Firearm in Vehicle, Firearm with Altered Identification, May 7, 4:41 a.m., Geary Boulevard and Ninth Avenue
Two police officers in a police vehicle noticed a suspect speeding on Geary Boulevard. The officers pulled over the suspect and a background check revealed the suspect's driver license to be suspended.

During an inventory check of the vehicle before it was towed, one of the officers found a handgun on the floor underneath the driver's seat. The handgun was loaded but there was not a round in the chamber. In addition, the serial number of the gun was scratched to the point of being unreadable. The driver and the passenger were taken to the Richmond Station.

Theft from Unlocked Vehicle, May 9, 9 a.m., 2400 Block of Sutter Street
A woman left her car, with the keys inside, in a valet parking lot. When she returned, she noticed that her glove compartment was open and several papers that were inside the compartment were on the floor. Also, the car's keys were missing. The victim asked the parking lot attendant where her keys were, and he told her they should be in the car.

When she returned to the car, she saw a "homeless" person emerge from the bushes behind the vehicle. When confronted by the victim and the attendant, the homeless man admitted to having the keys, but insisted he found them and wanted $5 for their return. The attendant paid the money and got the keys. The victim then called police, who eventually found the suspect. Both the victim and the attendant separately identified the homeless man in a cold show.

The victim did not want any further police action, so the suspect was identified and released.
