Lillian Kim: First Day for School Scoops
Welcome to the first "school scoop" column. School and classroom victories are a daily occurrence in Richmond District public schools. The "scoop" intends to highlight these achievements.
The Richmond District offers several public school choices for your family. There are five elementary schools, two alternative elementary schools, two middle schools and two high schools. The alternative schools are: Argonne, a year-round school for grades kindergarten through fifth, and Claire Lilienthal, for grades kindergarten through eighth. Richmond District schools consistently rank among the top in the City. It is time to start sharing our successes with each other. I am currently seeking contacts at each school.
If you have a school event or story to share, please contact schoolscoop@hotmail.com. I would like to report school achievements, community building events, fundraising successes, volunteering opportunities and student successes.
One of the best ways to learn about our wonderful schools is at the "Public School Fair," hosted by the San Francisco Unified School District. Mark your calendars for Saturday, Oct. 29, at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The fair provides "one stop shopping" for anyone pondering kindergarten, elementary, middle or high schools for next year. For detailed information on public schools, go to the school district's Web site at www.sfusd.edu.
Another excellent resource on how to support your public schools is Parents for Public Schools at www.ppssf.org. PPS is seeking parent ambassadors for all the Richmond District schools. School tours begin in October.
