Capt. Sandra Tong: Police Beat
Wanted: Concerned Citizens
The Richmond District Community/Police Forum, Friends of Sutro Park, Coalition
to Save Ocean Beach and other neighborhood associations invite residents,
merchants and citizens to attend a special meeting on Tuesday, March 16.
The focus is "traffic calming along Fulton Street."
There is a growing community concern that the traffic flow along Fulton Street, between Arguello Boulevard and the Great Highway, is unsafe for pedestrians, motorists and the neighborhood.
The SF Department of Parking and Traffic will present information on what a traffic-calming program entails. The group will discuss whether or not our community would commit to organizing and implementing a long-term, traffic-calming project on Fulton Street.
We need your input and commitment to this worthwhile project. Please mark your calendar and attend this meeting.
Good Arrest of Hit-and-Run Suspect
On Feb. 21, at about 10:15 p.m., officer Andy Wu was conducting a traffic
stop at Third Avenue and Geary Boulevard when he heard a loud noise. Officer
Wu turned his attention towards the noise and saw a white vehicle strike
a pedestrian riding a skateboard. The vehicle fled from the accident at
a high rate of speed. Wu carefully pursued the hit-and-run vehicle but briefly
lost sight of it. With the assistance of observant pedestrians, he identified
the vehicle once again weaving in and out of traffic. Wu made a traffic
stop at Geary and Funston Avenue and detained two occupants.
The pedestrian was treated and released for injuries to the right leg and right elbow. After a thorough investigation, the driver of the vehicle was arrested for felony hit and run, speeding and various traffic infractions.
Wu is to be commended for his keen observation and for safely pursuing and detaining the suspect's vehicle.
