Letter to the Editor
Editor:
Your story about me in the March issue of the Sunset Beacon is commendable, but allow me several observations.
Your caption writer evidently did not read the introduction, which clearly states that I was convicted of a single count: conspiracy to commit espionage. The caption has me convicted of treason. You are in good company in making this error: the New York Times recently made the same error. It is so common an error because so many sources make the same error. I will not go into the significance of the error, which requires a discussion of the Constitution, because it would be too long.
The second edition of "On Doing Time" has the addition of a CD-ROM containing several hundred FBI files which cast a great deal of light on the FBI operations. The article is strangely quiet about this aspect of the re-issue. I considered this the most significant aspect of the new edition. Strange.
