New Speed Limit on 19th Ave.
The speed limit on 19th Avenue and Park
Presidio Boulevard has been lowered.
Previously set at 35 miles per hour (m.p.h.), drivers now must adhere to a new 30 m.p.h. limit.
Enforcement of the speed limit is expected to be strict until 2009. Violators will be ticketed, according to state officials.
There have been numerous pedestrians hit on the busy thoroughfare.
Street Closed to Remove Sand
The Great Highway was closed to traffic in mid-June for approximately a
week due to a sand-relocation project led by the SF Department of Public Works
(DPW).
The street was closed between Lincoln Way and Sloat Boulevard from 9 a.m to 3 p.m.
The sand-relocation project entailed DPW crews and hired contractors transferring accumulated sand from the Ocean Beach promenade to the beach area south of Sloat Boulevard.
The project did not compromise pedestrian access to Ocean Beach, though officials urged those crossing to do so with caution.
