Petty Theft, False Identification to Peace Officer, Warrant Arrest: April
30, 6:10 p.m., 3200 Block of 20th Avenue
A 27-year-old woman walked into a department store and put some earrings in
her purse. She then walked over to the clothes department and pulled two shirts
and a pair of pants off the rack and went into the dressing room.
After the suspect left the store, a loss prevention officer detained her and asked for identification.
The suspect gave erroneous information.
Police officers transported the suspect to the Taraval Station, where they were able to decipher the woman's real name from a name on a notebook in her possession.
An identity search revealed the woman was wanted for an outstanding warrant in Fresno.
Theft, Warrant Arrest: April 30, 7:11 p.m., 1500 Block of Sloat Boulevard
A woman in a supermarket walked up to another shopper and took her purse from
the child compartment in her shopping cart.
A security guard noticed the theft and chased the suspect as she fled from the store. Another guard also gave chase.
The two guards were able to apprehend the 28-year-old suspect until police officers arrived.
Officers transported the suspect to Taraval Station, where a background check revealed an outstanding warrant. She was then transported to County Jail #9.
Soliciting Prostitution: April 22, 1:01 p.m., 600 Block of Taraval
Street
San Francisco Police Department vice officers went to an address on Taraval
Street after receiving a complaint from Taraval officers about possible prostitution
activity at a massage parlor.
The officers cited a Sunset resident for soliciting an act of prostitution.
Dog Bite or Attack: April 29, 1:19 p.m., 1700 Block of Irving Street
Two telecommunications employees were walking on Irving Street when they passed
a man sitting with his Australian Blue Heeler dog. As they passed, the dog suddenly
lunged at one of the men, grabbing his lower leg.
When officers arrived at the scene the victim and dog owner were still present.
The victim showed a small cut and two teeth puncture wounds, which bled slightly.
The dog's owner showed proof of rabies vaccination and the victim said he would seek his own medical attention since the bite occurred during his work shift.
Officers admonished the dog's owner for not fully comprehending the unpredictable nature of the dog and suggested that the animal wear a muzzle in public.
Because the victim did not require any further police action, the dog's owner was not cited.
Burglary, False Identification Card: April 29, 5:15 p.m., 2300 Block of
Irving Street
A woman walked into a bank and tried to cash a $3,865 check with an I.D. with
a picture that did not look like the woman.
The day before, someone had passed bad checks at several banks on the Peninsula using false identification, prompting bank authorities to send out a special notification about the suspects' modus operandi.
The woman was detained after bank officials determined the suspect was the woman who had earlier tried to pass bogus checks, albeit with a different name.
When officers arrived, the woman gave a false name.The 20-year-old suspect said she had been coerced into taking the illegal action by several men. A search of the area for additional suspects was unsuccessful.
The suspect was transported to Taraval Station and booked.
Homicide: April 27, 4:15 p.m., 1600 Block of 26th Avenue
A man was stabbed to death, allegedly by his brother.
When officers arrived on the scene, the suspect had already fled the premises.
Two Taraval Station officers dressed in plainclothes and set up surveillance at the victim's house.
At 2:05 a.m., the officers observed the suspect walking near the victim's residence. They encountered the suspect and found him to be the person wanted for the homicide.
The suspect was arrested and booked on murder charges.
Theft: April 26, 6 p.m., 2500 Block of 40th Avenue
A retired police officer witnessed a woman stealing another woman's purse inside
a church.
He detained the woman until Taraval officers arrived and cited her.
