Student Brawl: Oct. 30, noon, Taraval Street and 22nd Avenue
Two high school students started fighting at a fast food restaurant during the school's off-campus lunch break. The fight soon expanded as three to four of each combatant's friends jumped into the fray. When the fight spilled out into the street, dozens of teenagers ran over to watch.

Several squad cars with police officers arrived at the scene and broke up the fight. There were no arrests.

Although the fight was between African American and Asian American students, there is no reason to believe the cause of the altercation was racially motivated, according to the principal at the high school.

Petty Theft: Oct. 31, 1:20 p.m., 1500 Block of Sloat Boulevard
A security guard in a supermarket noticed a man in the liquor isle putting a bottle of Jack Daniels in his jacket. The suspect put four more bottles in his jacket before going over to the cold drink aisle, where he put an energy drink in his jacket.

After the suspect walked by the check-out clerks and out of the store, the guard identified himself. The 52-year-old suspect voluntarily returned the merchandise and waited for officers to arrive. The suspect, who had a prior conviction that resulted in 75 days served in jail and three years on probation, had three outstanding warrants. The suspect was transported to Taraval Station and booked.

Burglary, Forced Entry: Oct. 30, Reported 8:58 a.m., 1900 Block of 21st Avenue
Contractors working on a house locked and secured the premises before leaving for the evening. The next morning, they discovered a chain-link fence and padlock had been cut and the garage door was damaged. Missing were the contractors power tools, which they left in the premises overnight.

Traffic Violation Arrest: Oct. 31, 5:40 p.m., Great Highway and Sloat Boulevard
An officer on patrol ran a computer check of a vehicle traveling on Sloat and discovered it was not registered, even though it had a current tab pasted on the license plate. After the officer enacted a traffic stop, the suspect became irate.

"Why are you pulling me over," the man yelled, while banging on his steering wheel.

The officer told the suspect that he was acting in a threatening manner and that he made the officer fear for his safety.

"I just want to know why you pulled me over," the man yelled again.

The officer called for backup and ordered the suspect out of the vehicle. When the suspect exited the vehicle, he refused to turn around for the officer to put handcuffs on him. The suspect eventually agreed to put his hands behind his back and he was cuffed.

A computer check revealed the suspect was driving with a suspended driver's license and no proof of insurance, as well as false license plate tab. The 46-year-old suspect was transported to Taraval Station an booked. His vehicle was towed from the scene.

Robbery, with Force, Burglary: Oct. 30, 7:42 p.m., 300 Block of West Portal Avenue
A 35-year-old man walked into a tutoring center and sat down behind a desk. He then took a woman's purse, put it under his sweater, and walked out. A witness saw the suspect take the purse and told the victim, who had gone into a back room. The 22-year-old victim took off running after the suspect and caught him a short distance away.

"Give me back my purse," the woman said. "What purse? I don't have anything," the suspect replied. The victim could see the bottom of her purse under the sweater and made a grab for it. A struggle ensued, but the suspect escaped when the woman fell. The victim chased the suspect to Wawona Street and 15th Avenue, where she ripped the sweater off of the suspect, who threw the purse to the ground and ran.

Officers discovered a man who matched a description of the suspect a couple of blocks away, at Ocean Avenue and Juniper Serra Boulevard. A cold show by the victim and several witnesses confirmed the identity of the suspect. He was transported to Taraval Station, where a computer check revealed he was on parole.

The victim was treated for minor abrasions at the scene and released. Her purse, with nothing missing, was returned.

Stolen Vehicle: Oct. 30, Reported 7:30 a.m., 1700 Block of Eighth Avenue
A man went out to use his 1995 Saturn vehicle and discovered it missing. He had parked it late the previous evening. According to the victim, the vehicle was locked and no one had permission to use it.

Dog Attack: Oct. 30, 5:15 p.m., 200 Block of Thrift Street
The victim was washing his vehicle in front of his home when the neighbor's dog Rocky suddenly attacked. The dog grabbed the victim's leg and refused to let go.

The owner of the dog ran over and was able to get the dog to let go of the man's leg, which had two small puncture wounds. The dog had gotten away from an 11-year-old girl who was holding the dog with a leash. She said she was unable to stop the dog when it suddenly ran toward the victim.

According to the owner, the dog has had its rabies and vaccine shots. The victim said he would seek his own medical treatment. The owner of the dog was cited for a health code violation for the unprovoked dog bite.
