Sunset Library to Open End of March

The Sunset Branch Library, which has undergone extensive remodeling and system-wide improvements, will re-open at the end of March.

Improvements to the new branch include a new teen area, a revamped children's area, a new program room and improved lighting. There is also free WiFi access, and more books, computers and furniture than the old library.

The library, which has been closed since September 2005, is the third in the City to be remodeled with a $100 million bond measure passed by city voters. The construction cost for the Sunset renovation was about $1.5 million. Another $50,000 was raised by the Sunset Library Campaign Committee for furnishings.

The Sunset Branch Library will reopen on Saturday, March 31. To celebrate the occasion, there will be an event beginning at 1 p.m., featuring Mayor Gavin Newsom, SF Supervisor Ross Mirkarimi and City Librarian Luis Herrera. Lion dancers, musicians and children entertainers will perform.
