Throughout September, every corner of the Sunset and Parkside districts will be hosting a community event or clean-up project. So, this month get out there, get informed and get involved in some of the activities in your area, including:
Western Neighborhoods Project Gala
Enjoy an evening of live music and support the Western Neighborhoods Project
(WNP), a non-profit organization formed to preserve and share the history and
culture of the neighborhoods in western San Francisco. Purchase tickets ($25
each) online at WNP's website at ww.outsidelands.org/gala/index.php. Details:
Janet Pomeroy Center, south of the SF Zoo on Saturday, Sept. 9, from 6 p.m.
to 10 p.m.
Annual La Playa Block Party
This third annual event is fun for all ages and everyone is welcome. There will
be a free BBQ, music and Jumpy Castle for kids. If you have any questions, please

Community Meeting on Sloat Boulevard Bike Lanes
Representatives from the Department of Parking and Traffic (DPT) will join myself
and bicycle advocates to discuss a current proposal to install bike lanes on
Sloat Boulevard. Representatives from other city departments will also be on
hand to address community questions and concerns. Details: Trocadero Clubhouse,
Stern Grove at Sloat Boulevard and 19th Avenue, on Monday, Sept. 11, 7 p.m.
to 9 p.m.
Workshop on the Lake Merced Boathouse Rehabilitation Project
Share your perspectives on the future of the boathouse facility, which is in
need of significant repairs and renovation. If you are unable to attend this

Coastal Garden Clean Up
Refresh plantings and renew the Sunset's newest little garden and clean up the
immediate neighborhood. All materials will be provided, dress appropriately
for gardening and clean up work. Details: Median at Lower Great Highway and
Taraval Street, on Saturday, Sept. 16, 9 a.m. to noon.
Wawona/Pine Lake Park Clean Up
Please help the community "Take Back their Neighborhood" with their first clean-up
effort. Again, all materials will be provided, just come ready to work. Details:
1715 Wawona St., at 30th Avenue, above Stern Grove and below Parkside Square/Edgewood
Children's Home, on Saturday, Sept. 23, at 9 a.m.
Sunset Community Festival - Spotlight on Our Environment II
Enjoy great food, live entertainment, and fun activities for kids and adults.
Get valuable community resources and information. The theme this year's event
is to promote an environmentally healthy, safe and friendly environment for
our diverse families of all ages and ethnicities. For more information, e-mail

Second Annual Autumn Moon Festival
This celebration will include performances by the Shaolin Monks, magicians,
musicians, pony rides and delicious food. This event is free and everyone is
welcome. The Autumn Moon Festival falls on the 15th day of the eighth lunar
month of the Chinese calendar.
